Jasmine, called malli in Tamil, is the flower many South Indian homes reach for first: tightly strung buds that open into a soft white string with a sweet scent. This listing is one string, about 6 feet long.

How it is used: worn in braided hair, draped over deity pictures and idols, tied across a doorway or pooja shelf, and used at festivals and family functions. Many families cut one string into shorter pieces for several people or several frames.

What you receive: one 6 ft jasmine string, wrapped for carrying home. The buds may still be closed when you pick up; they open over the following hours.

Care & handling

Keep the string in its wrap, or loosely in a damp paper towel inside a closed container, in the refrigerator (not the freezer) until you need it. A light sprinkle of water keeps the buds from drying out. Take it out a little before wearing or offering so the buds can open.
