Mango leaves, maavilai in Tamil, mark an auspicious occasion. They are tied in a thoranam across the doorway for festivals and housewarmings, and set around the mouth of the kalasam beneath the coconut.
How they are used: kalasam for Varalakshmi Vratham, Navaratri and other poojas; doorway thoranam for Pongal, Ugadi, Diwali and grihapravesam.
What you receive: one bundle of mango leaves: 5 leaves, a common count for dressing a kalasam, or 25 or 50 for doorway thoranams and larger functions.
Fresh leaves are perishable. Leaf size and shade vary from batch to batch.
